Xpeng’s flying car unit, Xpeng Aeroht, has recently obtained a significant permit for its Land Aircraft Carrier modular flying car in the UAE, marking a milestone for the company’s expansion into overseas markets. This special flight permit in the UAE represents the first manned aircraft special flight permit secured by a Chinese flying car company outside of China.
With this permit in hand, Xpeng Aeroht is gearing up to conduct manned flight tests at various locations across the UAE. The company is set to complete its inaugural flight in Dubai this coming October. This achievement was announced on the opening day of the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich, Germany earlier this month.
The modular flying car, which underwent 12 years of research and development with an investment of approximately $600 million, has already seen significant interest in the Chinese market with nearly 5,000 pre-orders. The complete system includes a flying vehicle and a mother vehicle that is capable of recharging it. Xpeng Aeroht aims to achieve mass production and delivery of the modular flying car by 2026, with a price cap set at RMB 2 million ($280,860).
Construction has already begun on Xpeng Aeroht’s flying car manufacturing base, which is targeting an annual production capacity of 10,000 units. In addition, the Civil Aviation Administration of China has accepted the Production Certificate application for the Land Aircraft Carrier vehicle’s flying unit, signaling the start of the review process.
To further support its production goals, Xpeng Aeroht recently completed a $250 million Series B funding round. This funding will help accelerate the mass production of the modular Land Aircraft Carrier flying car. With these developments, Xpeng Aeroht is well-positioned to make a significant impact in the flying car industry, both in China and abroad.
