Volkswagen-backed Xpeng is setting its sights on the French market, with plans to sell 3,500 electric cars by 2025. The company currently has 30 dealerships across the country and aims to double that number to 60-70 by the end of the year, according to Thomas Rodier, the marketing director, in an interview with Automobile Propre.
Xpeng officially entered the French market in May, with deliveries commencing in September. As of January 10, they have delivered nearly 800 cars, with 511 already registered. In December alone, Xpeng managed to deliver 300 cars in France.
The company’s target is to achieve a 50/50 split between individual buyers and corporate clients. Currently, over 80% of G9 sales are to businesses, and 80% of customers are opting for leasing options. For instance, the monthly subscription for the Xpeng G6 starts at 470 EUR without a deposit.
Xpeng offers two models in France: the G6, positioned as a competitor to the Tesla Model Y, and the G9 flagship SUV. Despite an even split in sales, Rodier disclosed that the G6 is gaining traction in the market.
The pricing and specifications for the models in France are as follows:
Xpeng G6
– RWD Standard Range: 42,990 EUR
– RWD Long Range: 46,990 EUR
– AWD Performance: 50,990 EUR
Xpeng G9 (800 V charging)
– RWD Standard Range: 59,990 EUR
– RWD Long Range: 63,990 EUR
– AWD Performance: 73,990 EUR
Xpeng is planning to expand its dealership network in France to ensure that an Xpeng point of sale is within an hour’s reach from anywhere in the country. Their flagship store in Paris, located at 10, Bd Gouvion-St-Cyr, opened on October 1.
In 2025, Xpeng will concentrate solely on their two SUV models but may introduce the Xpeng P7+ to the French market by the year-end. The company currently operates in 12 international markets, utilizing the traditional dealership model.
In 2024, Xpeng sold 190,068 EVs globally, marking a 34.2% increase from the previous year. In China, the starting price for the Xpeng G6 Long Range version is 169,900 yuan (23,430 USD), while the G9 flagship 570 Pro version starts at 228,900 yuan (31,600 USD).
