Xpeng names new coupe sedan codenamed E29 as new P7

Xpeng has officially announced the launch of its new coupe sedan, the P7, which is a major facelift for the company’s iconic sports sedan. This new model, internally codenamed E29, represents a significant update to the original P7, which was first introduced in April 2020.

The P7 has been a key model for Xpeng, contributing a significant portion of the company’s annual deliveries. In 2021, the P7 accounted for 61.71 percent of Xpeng’s total deliveries, demonstrating its popularity among consumers.

The new P7 features a sportier exterior design compared to its predecessor, with a focus on enhancing aerodynamics. The front and rear design of the new coupe sedan is similar to Xpeng’s P7+ model, which was launched in November 2024. Additionally, the new P7 comes with an additional spoiler for improved performance.

Rafik Ferrag, Xpeng’s head of creative design, shared a video previewing the silhouette of the new coupe sedan on Instagram. Ferrag, who joined Xpeng in 2018, is known for his work on the first-generation P7.

Since its debut at the Shanghai auto show in April 2019, the P7 has been lauded for its sleek and stylish exterior design. The success of the P7 has led Xpeng to release updated versions of the sedan, including the P7i and the P7+.

The P7 delivered impressive sales numbers in 2021 and 2022, with over 60,000 units sold each year. However, with the introduction of the P7+ model, Xpeng is now focusing on production of the new model, with deliveries of the original P7 series declining.

The pricing for the new P7 starts at RMB 249,900 ($34,650) in China, while the P7+ model is priced at RMB 186,800. These competitive price points make the new P7 an attractive option for consumers looking for a stylish and performance-driven sedan.

Overall, the new Xpeng P7 represents a significant evolution of the company’s flagship sedan, with a focus on cutting-edge design and performance. The addition of the P7 to Xpeng’s lineup further solidifies the company’s position as a leader in the electric vehicle market.
