Xpeng, a leading Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, recently inaugurated its first Research and Development (R&D) center in Europe, located in Munich, Germany. This new facility marks Xpeng’s ninth global R&D center, joining others in key locations such as Silicon Valley and San Diego in the US.

The decision to establish a presence in Europe underscores Xpeng’s commitment to expanding its reach in major export markets. The company aims to directly engage with European users through the Munich center, allowing them to voice their needs and preferences, which can then be translated into innovative solutions. Brain Gu, Vice Chairman and Co-President of Xpeng, emphasized during a press briefing that the R&D center will play a crucial role in driving the company’s global growth strategy.

Xpeng made its official entry into the European market in 2021, starting with Norway, and has since expanded its footprint to 46 countries and regions worldwide. With ambitions for overseas markets to contribute half of its sales within the next decade, Xpeng is focused on strengthening its international presence and delivering cutting-edge EV technologies to a global audience.

In August, Xpeng achieved a significant milestone by delivering a record 37,709 vehicles, marking a substantial year-on-year increase of 168.66%. This growth trend continued from January to August, with a total of 271,615 vehicles delivered, representing a remarkable 251.79% surge compared to the same period last year. As of the end of August, Xpeng’s cumulative deliveries since its inception reached 861,994 vehicles, highlighting the company’s sustained momentum and market success.

Looking ahead, Xpeng is gearing up to launch a range of Mona series products in China, Europe, and other global markets in 2026. This strategic move underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and market expansion, further solidifying its position as a key player in the global EV industry.

With its Munich R&D center now operational, Xpeng is well-positioned to drive forward its vision of revolutionizing the future of mobility and delivering sustainable transportation solutions to customers worldwide. As the company continues to expand its global footprint and advance its technological capabilities, Xpeng remains a frontrunner in the EV industry, poised for continued growth and success in the years to come.
