Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) recently announced its plans to introduce the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) version of its G7 SUV in the first quarter of next year. The company shared the first official images of the extended-range G7 variant on Weibo, describing it as the newest member of its Super Extended-Range family.

The upcoming G7 EREV will be built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform architecture, featuring a large battery that supports 5C ultra-fast charging. With an impressive pure-electric range of up to 430 kilometers, the vehicle will also incorporate cutting-edge AI technology to enhance its performance and efficiency.

The G7 EREV made its debut in a regulatory catalog released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on September 10. According to the catalog, the five-seat SUV measures 4,918 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,655 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm. The vehicle will weigh between 2,245-2,255 kg and reach a top speed of 202 km/h.

Powered by a 1.5L engine from Harbin Dongan Auto Engine as a range extender, the G7 EREV will utilize lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by Eve Energy. The battery pack capacity is 55.8 kWh, providing a range of 325 kilometers, although Xpeng hinted at a potential increase to 430 kilometers in the future.

The G7 EREV follows the launch of the BEV variant of the G7 earlier this July, which comes equipped with Xpeng’s in-house developed Turing AI chip boasting up to 2,250 TOPS of computing power. The BEV variant is priced starting at RMB 195,800 ($27,490) and offers a CLTC range of 602 to 702 kilometers.

Prior to the release of the G7 EREV, Xpeng is set to introduce the extended-range version of its X9 MPV in the fourth quarter of this year. Additionally, reports have surfaced indicating that Xpeng plans to launch an extended-range P7+ sedan in 2026, featuring a battery capable of 5C charging rates and an expected range of 400 kilometers.

With Xpeng’s continued focus on expanding its lineup with extended-range electric vehicles, the company is poised to offer consumers a diverse range of options that combine performance, technology, and sustainability. Stay tuned for more updates on Xpeng’s innovative developments in the electric vehicle market.
