Lion Electric sticks US schools with unsafe, broken buses

The issues surrounding Lion Electric school buses continue to plague school districts across the US, with many buses sitting idle due to safety and drivability concerns. Despite new Canadian investors stepping in, there seems to be no resolution in sight for the problems plaguing these electric buses.

School districts that invested in Lion Electric buses are facing a range of issues, from onboard charger failures to power steering malfunctions. The buses have been plagued by design flaws, such as the use of a diesel-powered heater to warm the electric bus, which defeats the purpose of going zero-emissions.

The new investors, including Vincent Chiara and Lion director Pierre Wilkie, have focused their efforts on reviving the Class 8 electric semi manufacturing operations in Quebec, leaving school districts with broken down buses and unresolved warranty claims. This has left many districts resorting back to diesel buses or seeking refunds to purchase from other electric bus manufacturers.

It is crucial for school districts considering electrification to be aware of the reputable and reliable electric bus manufacturers in the market that can deliver on their promises. With options available that have a proven track record of success, it is essential to make informed decisions when transitioning to electric school buses.

The situation with Lion Electric buses serves as a cautionary tale for school districts looking to decarbonize their fleets and reduce emissions. With unresolved issues and a lack of support from the new investors, it is clear that careful consideration and research are necessary when choosing an electric bus provider.
