KG Mobility (KGM, formerly SsangYong) has unveiled its ambitious plan to introduce seven new models by 2030, as the South Korean automaker aims to enhance its range of electrified vehicles for global markets. The announcement was made by KGM’s chairman, Kwak Jae-sun, during the “KGM Forward” conference held at the company’s headquarters in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.

KGM’s future product lineup will focus on expanding its SUVs and MPVs to meet the growing demand worldwide. The company plans to collaborate with global partners to acquire technologies for producing extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), in addition to strengthening its existing portfolio of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs.

Last year, KGM entered into a strategic partnership agreement with China’s Chery Automobile Company to enhance its electrified vehicles range through platform licensing and technology sharing. The collaboration aims to support KGM in developing new models that cater to the evolving market demands.

KGM is currently working on the development of a new medium-to-large SUV range, the SE10, in partnership with Chery, which is set to enter production next year. This will be followed by the KR10, the successor to the current Korando SUV, as well as a passenger minibus/MPV and cargo van range. Additionally, KGM plans to launch the Action Hybrid in the second half of this year.

Kwak Jung-hyun, the head of KGM’s Business Strategy Division, highlighted the increasing demand in the domestic MPV market for family care, school transportation, and leisure activities. He mentioned that there is a limited selection of models available to consumers in this segment and announced KGM’s plans to introduce a new MPV to expand consumer choices in the growing minivan market.
