BYD’s sub-brand Yangwang is revving up its electric supercar game with the new Yangwang U9, set to hit the market with a powerful punch. The latest model, recently included in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) catalog for public feedback, boasts a peak power output of 555 kW per motor, a significant upgrade from the current U9’s 240 kW.
The new Yangwang U9 is equipped with four motors, each delivering double the power of its predecessor. This enhanced power output is expected to elevate the supercar’s acceleration performance, potentially surpassing its current record of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.36 seconds.
One key feature of the new U9 is its use of high-speed motor technology, possibly derived from BYD’s groundbreaking motor unveiled in March. This motor, capable of reaching speeds up to 30,511 rpm with a peak power of 580 kW, sets a new standard for mass-produced motors and has already been integrated into models like the Han L EV and Tang L EV.
In terms of specifications, the Yangwang U9 maintains its dimensions and wheelbase, measuring 4,966 mm long, 2,029 mm wide, 1,311 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. With a curb weight of 2,480 kg and a maximum speed of 350 km/h, the U9 promises a thrilling driving experience.
Powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from BYD’s subsidiary FinDreams Battery, the U9 showcases the brand’s commitment to innovative and sustainable technology. Originally launched in 2024 as the brand’s second model after the U8 luxury SUV, the U9 has since garnered attention for its performance and design.
With a current price of RMB 1.68 million ($233,840) in China, the Yangwang U9 is positioned as a high-performance electric supercar in a competitive market. Alongside the U9, Yangwang offers a range of models including the U7 sedan and the recently introduced U8L luxury SUV, catering to diverse consumer preferences.
As Yangwang continues to expand its product lineup and enhance its market presence, the brand’s focus on performance, technology, and sustainability remains at the forefront of its offerings. With the upcoming release of the new U9 supercar, BYD’s sub-brand Yangwang is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market, setting new standards for luxury and performance in the industry.
