Nio hits 9 million battery swaps in Shanghai

Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) recently achieved a significant milestone in Shanghai, where the company hit nine million battery swaps. This achievement highlights the success of the electric vehicle (EV) maker’s operations in its global headquarters city. The milestone was reached around 8 pm Beijing time on August 20, as reported by CnEVPost’s monitoring of Nio’s charging map.

Shanghai stands out as the city with the highest number of Nio battery swap stations, totaling 190 currently. The city’s high population density and developed economy contribute to the high utilization rates of Nio’s stations. The majority of these stations in Shanghai provide services exceeding 100 times daily, showcasing the strong demand for Nio’s battery swap technology.

In addition to the nine million battery swaps milestone, Nio also announced earlier this year that it had delivered its 100,000th vehicle in Shanghai on April 13. This milestone further solidifies Nio’s presence in one of China’s megacities, with a population of approximately 24.8 million as of the end of 2024.

Nio’s founder, chairman, and CEO William Li revealed in February that the company’s battery swap stations in Shanghai were close to breaking even. This positive development indicates the financial viability of Nio’s operations in the city. Shen Fei, who previously served as Nio’s vice president in charge of energy business, mentioned that Nio provided over 9,000 battery swap services daily in Shanghai and was on track to reach 10,000 soon.

With the energy business now overseen by Nio Power’s CFO Stanly Qu, the company continues to expand its presence in Shanghai and enhance its battery swap services. The success of Nio’s operations in the city underscores its commitment to providing efficient and convenient solutions for EV users.

Overall, Nio’s achievement of nine million battery swaps in Shanghai reflects its strong position in the EV market and its dedication to innovation and customer service. As the company continues to grow and expand its reach, it remains a key player in the electric vehicle industry.
