BAIC Group Partners with Alkan Auto to Establish EV Assembly Plant in Egypt
Beijing (Gasgoo)- BAIC Group has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Alkan Auto, a subsidiary of Egyptian International Motors, to build an electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant in Egypt. The collaboration aims to position Egypt as an industrial hub in North Africa, promoting the localization of the automotive industry and its supporting sectors. The Egyptian Ministry of Industry and Transport has pledged full support to accelerate the project’s transition to production.
The plant, set to cover an area of 120,000 square meters, is expected to start operations by late 2025, with an initial annual production target of 20,000 vehicles, scaling up to 50,000 by its fifth year. In addition to meeting local demand, the plant will serve as a key export center for the Middle East and Africa markets, creating approximately 1,200 jobs for the Egyptian workforce.
In line with BAIC Group’s market expansion efforts, the company recently opened its first flagship store in Cairo, showcasing the U5 PLUS, Mofang, and new X7 models. These models have quickly gained popularity among Egyptian consumers for their advanced features and high quality. On October 20, BAIC introduced the BJ30, a lightweight electric 4WD SUV designed for off-road performance, further expanding its local lineup.
With a presence in 49 countries, BAIC Group’s globalization strategy is gaining momentum, with Egypt emerging as a pivotal market. BAIC and Alkan Auto will collaborate on comprehensive initiatives covering sales, professional services, and mobility solutions to unlock broader market potential across the region.
The partnership between BAIC Group and Alkan Auto signifies a significant step towards the development of the EV industry in Egypt, contributing to the country’s economic growth and job creation. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting venture.
