2025 Honda HR-V Review: Prices, Specs, and Photos

The Honda HR-V is a small crossover SUV that competes with the Subaru Crosstrek, Volkswagen Taos, and Chevrolet Trax. The 2025 Honda HR-V offers a reasonable value, a comfortable and flexible cabin, and borderline entertaining driving dynamics. It has received a rating of 6.5 out of 10 on the TCC Rating scale.

In terms of design, the Honda HR-V has quirky styling with a long hood and a somewhat boxy profile. The cabin features logically arranged controls with plenty of knobs and buttons for climate and audio functions. The low dash and narrow roof pillars provide excellent outward vision, making it easy to navigate the road.

Under the hood, the HR-V is powered by a 158-horsepower 2.0-liter inline-4 engine paired with a CVT transmission. While the engine may not be the most refined, the HR-V delivers a high-quality ride and impressive handling thanks to its sophisticated multi-link rear suspension. It handles bumps well and provides good stability on the highway. The sharp steering and minimal lean in corners give it a feel more akin to a hot-hatch than a crossover SUV.

All-wheel drive is optional for the HR-V, but it may not be necessary for most drivers unless they live in snowy conditions. Fuel efficiency is decent, with an EPA-estimated combined rating of 27 to 28 mpg.

Inside, the HR-V can comfortably seat four passengers and offers a 24.4 cubic-foot cargo area that expands with the 60:40 split-folding rear seats folded down. The front seats are comfortable, and the sound deadening makes it a quiet and enjoyable ride for commuting or long highway drives.

Safety is a strong point for the HR-V, as it has performed well in crash tests. It has been named a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS and received a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and pedestrian detection.

The 2025 Honda HR-V starts at $26,750 for the base LX trim, with all-wheel drive available for an additional $1,500. Despite not being overly luxurious, the HR-V comes equipped with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, automatic climate control, and a decent amount of crash-avoidance technology.

The 2025 Honda HR-V is manufactured in Mexico. With its blend of value, comfort, and safety features, the HR-V is a solid choice in the competitive small crossover SUV segment.
