The small-diameter, low-set steering wheel may take some getting used to, but it is better integrated in these models compared to previous Peugeot cars. The higher position of the gauge cluster screen makes it easier for taller drivers to see. Opting for the leather seats, although at an additional cost, is recommended for taller drivers as it is the only way to get cushion angle adjustment.
However, the design of these cars leans more towards style over substance. The lack of physical buttons means that most controls are accessed through the touchscreen, which can be laggy at times. Additionally, the climate control settings are not permanently displayed on the screen, requiring users to navigate through menus to make adjustments. The ‘i-Toggles’ feature, while customizable, has limitations in terms of the functions that can be programmed.
In terms of practicality as an MPV replacement, the 5008 falls short compared to competitors like the Hyundai Santa Fe. Cabin storage features are lacking, with fewer hidden cubbies and shelves for storage. The second row of seats in the 5008 offers less legroom than the Santa Fe, limiting the ability to create more space for third-row passengers. The third-row passengers also miss out on amenities such as USB ports and climate vents.
Despite these drawbacks, the Peugeot 5008 does offer a slightly smaller boot space than the Hyundai Santa Fe but makes up for it with more useful underfloor storage options. The infotainment system in the 5008 is impressive, with a 21-inch curved display that is clear and responsive. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard features, providing seamless connectivity options.
