Audi introduces new EV and combustion models for Chinese market

Audi has recently unveiled a new lineup of vehicles in China, catering to the local market with a mix of electric and combustion-engine models. The launch event in Hangzhou showcased the Audi Q6L e-tron and Audi Q6L Sportback e-tron, both based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, as well as the Audi A5L and Audi A5L Sportback, built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC).

The Audi A5L Sportback is already available for purchase, while the Q6L e-tron models offer exceptional driving performance, charging capabilities, range, and efficiency. These vehicles are the first to be localized using the PPE platform and feature a China-specific infotainment system and extended wheelbase for added comfort.

Production of these models is handled by Audi FAW NEV Company, a joint venture between Audi and FAW Group, at a new facility in Changchun, China. The collaboration has also resulted in the development of the next generation of Audi’s mid-size class, with the Audi A5L and A5L Sportback offering advanced driver assistance technologies.

In addition to the vehicle launches, Audi has been making strides in digital innovation. In June 2025, the company introduced an AI-powered digital assistant called Devbot, created in partnership with Storm Reply. This tool leverages Agentic AI technologies to provide automated support and personalized recommendations for Audi’s Cloud Foundation Services team, enhancing cloud management activities within the company.

However, Audi faced challenges in the US market earlier this year when the government implemented a 25% tariff, leading the company to halt vehicle distribution at US ports. Despite this setback, Audi remains focused on expanding its presence in China and delivering cutting-edge vehicles tailored to the preferences of the local market.
