BYD just had its best sales week of 2025 in China at nearly 68,000

BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle giant, has once again proven its dominance in the EV market with its best sales week of 2025. According to recent data, BYD registered a staggering 67,980 vehicles from May 5 to May 11, a significant increase from the previous week’s 58,310 registrations. This impressive performance solidifies BYD’s position as the leader in China’s EV market, far surpassing its competitors like Tesla.

Not only did BYD achieve record-breaking numbers in overall sales, but its premium sub-brands, Denza and Fang Cheng Bao, also saw significant increases in registrations. Denza recorded 2,990 registrations, while Fang Cheng Bao notched 2,660 registrations, marking a 3.8% and 17.7% growth, respectively, from the previous week.

While other Chinese EV brands like NIO and XPeng also posted strong numbers, with 6,060 and 6,870 vehicle registrations, respectively, BYD’s consistent performance sets it apart in the industry. Additionally, brands like Xiaomi, Deepal, and ZEEKR made impressive showings during the same week, further showcasing the growing demand for electric vehicles in China.

In comparison, Tesla delivered just 3,070 vehicles in China during the same period, marking a significant decline from the previous year. To drive demand and compete with BYD and other automakers, Tesla extended its 0% financing offer through June 30.

Despite the challenges faced by Tesla, BYD continues to thrive in the EV market, both in China and overseas. In April, BYD sold over 380,000 new energy vehicles, including plug-in hybrids, surpassing Tesla’s sales by a wide margin. The company also saw a fifth straight month of growth in overseas markets, outselling Tesla in key markets like Germany and the UK.

With new manufacturing plants opening in various global regions, including Europe, Mexico, Brazil, and Southeast Asia, BYD’s momentum is expected to accelerate in the coming years. The company’s expansion into new segments like pickup trucks, luxury vehicles, and electric supercars further solidifies its position as a leader in the rapidly evolving EV industry.
