BYD has recently launched its new electric vehicle, the e7, which is set to rival the Tesla Model 3 in China. The midsize electric sedan is being touted as the “winner’s choice” for those in the market for a low-cost EV. With a starting price of 103,800 yuan (approximately $14,500), the e7 is about half the cost of a base Model 3 in China.
The e7 comes in three “Smart” trims and offers two BYD Blade battery options: 48 or 57.8 kWh, providing driving ranges of 450 and 520 km, respectively. The sedan is similar in size to the Tesla Model 3, measuring 4,780 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, 1,515 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
While the e7 shares some design elements with other BYD models, it features unique elements such as a “Smiling and high-spirited” front face design, full-score LED headlights, and a duck tail. The interior is relatively simple, with a 15.6″ central infotainment screen and a 5″ driver display cluster. The cockpit also boasts ergonomic cloud-sensing seats, an integrated hand gear, and a panoramic sunroof.
Despite being part of BYD’s lower-priced e-series lineup, the e7 is now part of the Ocean series alongside popular EVs like the Dolphin and Seagull. The affordability of the e7 compared to the Tesla Model 3 makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. However, it’s important to note that the base Model 3 offers a higher CLTC driving range of up to 634 km (394 miles) compared to the e7.
Overall, the BYD e7 is a promising addition to the electric vehicle market in China, offering a competitive option for those looking to make the switch to electric driving. With its affordable price point and impressive features, the e7 is poised to make a significant impact in the EV industry.
