The latest Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filings have revealed the new BYD Xia plug-in hybrid MPV, which made its debut earlier at the Chengdu Auto Show. Pre-sales for the vehicle began in September at a starting price of around 289,000 yuan (40,600 USD).

As part of BYD’s Dynasty series, the BYD Xia showcases the distinctive “Dragon Face” design language, featuring the fifth-generation DM technology and DiPilot intelligent driving system. The exterior design of the car follows the Dynasty family’s aesthetic, with a prominent front grille adorned with “Dragon Whiskers” decorative stripes. The “Xia” logo is prominently displayed on the front chrome horizontal bar.

Measuring 5145/1970/1805 mm with a wheelbase of 3045mm, the BYD Xia comes equipped with 18-inch wheels as standard. Optional features include a small sunroof with a panoramic roof combination, front-side radar, and a rear spoiler with a camera. The vehicle also boasts the Yunnian-C intelligent damping control system, DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system, and DiLink 150 smart cockpit.

Under the hood, the BYD Xia is powered by a 1.5T engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined power output of 115kW from the engine and 200kW from the electric motor. The 20.39 kWh battery provides a pure electric range of 80 km, with an optional 38 kWh battery version offering a range of 145 km and fuel consumption of 6.5L per 100 km.

With a starting price below the Denza D9, the BYD Xia aims to capture a segment of the MPV market in China. It will compete with models like the Toyota Sienna and Buick GL8 while potentially challenging the sales of the Denza D9. The BYD Xia is positioned as an affordable and technologically advanced option in the MPV segment.

In conclusion, the BYD Xia represents a significant addition to BYD’s lineup, offering a compelling blend of design, technology, and affordability. With its unique features and competitive pricing, the BYD Xia is poised to make a mark in the Chinese MPV market.
