BYD’s luxury sub-brand Yangwang has recently unveiled its latest offering, the U7, targeting the Chinese luxury car market with a starting price of RMB 628,000 ($86,430). This mid-to-large sedan boasts powerful performance, ride comfort, and top-notch safety features, making it a compelling option in the luxury car segment.
The Yangwang U7 is available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) versions, with different seating configurations to cater to varying consumer preferences. The five-seat variant starts at RMB 628,000 for both BEV and PHEV models, while the four-seat version is priced at RMB 708,000 for both variants.
Measuring 5,265 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,517 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm, the U7 is powered by Yangwang’s e4 technology, featuring four electric motors with a combined peak power of 960 kW and peak torque of 1,584 Nm. This powertrain delivers an impressive 1,300 horsepower, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds.
One of the standout features of the Yangwang U7 is its DiSus-Z body control system, which enhances ride comfort and safety. The system can predict road conditions half a second in advance, adjusting the suspension accordingly to ensure a smooth driving experience even on rough terrain. In case of a flat tire, the suspension can lift the damaged wheel, allowing the vehicle to continue driving at 80 km/h for 30 kilometers.
Equipped with BYD’s advanced God’s Eye A smart driving system and DiPilot 600 smart driving solution, the U7 offers cutting-edge autonomous driving capabilities. The BEV variant comes with a 135.5-kWh battery pack, providing a range of 720 kilometers, while the PHEV version features a 52.4 kWh battery pack and a combined range of up to 1,000 km on a full tank of fuel and charge.
With the rapid development of electrification in China, local brands like BYD are gaining traction in the high-end market previously dominated by foreign luxury brands. Yangwang’s cumulative deliveries of 9,846 vehicles since its launch in November 2023 underscore the brand’s growing presence in the luxury segment.
In conclusion, the Yangwang U7 represents BYD’s commitment to offering premium luxury vehicles with exceptional performance, comfort, and safety features at a competitive price point. As Chinese automakers continue to innovate and expand their offerings in the luxury car market, the U7 stands out as a compelling choice for discerning consumers seeking a blend of luxury and cutting-edge technology.
