Cadillac to Offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in EVs Sold in Australia and New Zealand

Cadillac, a renowned luxury car manufacturer, has announced that it will continue to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its electric vehicles (EVs) sold in Australia and New Zealand. This decision comes as a pleasant surprise to many customers who were disappointed by General Motors’ (GM) recent move to phase out these popular connectivity features in favor of its own Google-based infotainment system in the US market.

Currently, only two GM electric vehicles in the US, the GMC Hummer EV and the Cadillac Lyriq, offer CarPlay and Android Auto. However, GM plans to transition to its own proprietary system to provide drivers with more control and access to future upgrades and subscription-based features. Despite this shift in the US market, Cadillac has decided to maintain CarPlay and Android Auto in its EVs sold in Australia and New Zealand.

The new Cadillac Connected Services system, set to be launched later this year, will feature Google built-in and offer a range of connectivity features, including a mobile app and over-the-air (OTA) updates. This new system will provide Cadillac owners with the latest Google services, such as Google Maps and the Google Assistant, enhancing their driving experience.

Jess Bala, Managing Director of GM Australia and New Zealand, expressed excitement about the inclusion of the new Connected Infotainment experience, stating that Cadillac owners will have access to class-leading services from Google. The Cadillac mobile app will allow drivers to check the battery level, precondition the cabin, run vehicle diagnostics, and more, making it easier for them to manage their EVs.

Despite the introduction of the new Connected Services system, Cadillac has confirmed that all upcoming EV models, including the Lyriq, Lyriq-V, Vistiq, and Optiq, will continue to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in Australia and New Zealand. The company aims to provide a seamless and user-friendly experience for its customers, ensuring that they have access to a wide range of connectivity options.

In conclusion, Cadillac’s decision to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its EVs sold in Australia and New Zealand demonstrates the company’s commitment to meeting the diverse needs of its customers. With the introduction of the new Cadillac Connected Services system, drivers can look forward to a more connected and convenient driving experience in their luxury electric vehicles.
