Leapmotor begins pre-sales of updated C16 SUV, starting at $23,640

Leapmotor, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has recently introduced new seating options for its popular C16 SUV. The updated C16 now offers five-seat configurations in addition to the previously available six-seat versions, providing customers with more choices to suit their needs.

Built on an 800-volt high-voltage architecture, the 2026 C16 comes in both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants. The BEV variant boasts an impressive range of 630 kilometers, making it a competitive option in the electric SUV market.

Pre-sales for the new C16 have already begun, with prices starting at RMB 169,800 ($23,640). The lineup includes a total of six trims, with three EREV variants priced between RMB 169,800 and RMB 179,800, and three BEV variants priced between RMB 179,800 and RMB 189,800.

The decision to offer higher pre-sale prices followed by potential lower prices at the official launch is a common strategy in China’s EV sector. Despite the price increase compared to the older C16 models, the updated version comes with enhancements such as an 8.1-liter onboard refrigerator.

The C16, initially launched in June 2024, has been well-received in the market, prompting Leapmotor to introduce new BEV variants earlier this year to meet growing demand for longer range options. The company’s strong sales performance is evident, with a significant year-on-year increase in vehicle deliveries.

In May alone, Leapmotor delivered a remarkable 45,067 vehicles, marking a 148.10 percent increase compared to the previous year. From January to May, the company delivered a total of 173,658 vehicles, demonstrating a 160.83 percent year-on-year growth.

While specific sales figures for the C16 in May are not available, data from April shows that the model sold 5,185 units. The continued success of the C16 and Leapmotor’s overall performance in the EV market position the company as a key player in the industry.

With its innovative technology, extended range capabilities, and commitment to meeting customer demands, Leapmotor is set to continue making waves in the electric vehicle sector. The introduction of new seating options for the C16 further enhances the vehicle’s appeal and solidifies Leapmotor’s position as a leader in the market.
