CATL launches the ‘world’s first ultra-safe’ EV skateboard chassis

CATL, the global EV battery leader, has made headlines with the launch of its new Bedrock Chassis, which is being hailed as the world’s first ultra-safe skateboard chassis. The company unveiled this groundbreaking technology on December 24, showcasing its exceptional safety performance in a video presentation during the launch event.

In the video, a prototype model underwent a frontal impact test at a staggering speed of 120 km/h (approximately 75 mph) without exploding or catching fire. CATL claims that the Bedrock Chassis sets a new standard for intelligent chassis safety, offering comprehensive protection across all scenarios and speed ranges. The chassis passed the world’s first “highest speed + strongest impact” dual extreme safety test, proving its durability and resilience.

One of the key features of the Bedrock Chassis is its battery-centered design, which integrates the battery cells directly into the unit. This design allows the chassis to absorb 85% of the vehicle’s collision energy, compared to the 60% absorption rate of a traditional chassis. Additionally, the chassis features an ultra-safe battery cell design that disconnects the high-voltage circuit instantly within 0.01 seconds and completes the vehicle’s residual high-voltage energy discharge within 0.2 seconds, setting a new industry record.

CATL’s new chassis design not only paves the way for the industry but also challenges the conventional belief that gasoline vehicles are safer than NEVs. The company believes that this innovation will accelerate the shift towards modular, personalized, intelligent vehicle design and has already secured AVATR as the first automaker to adopt the new technology.

In addition to the launch of the Bedrock Chassis, CATL recently announced plans to expand its EV battery swap network with its new “Chocolate” SEB batteries. The company aims to phase out gas stations in the coming years as it rapidly expands battery swap stations across China.

CATL is committed to creating safer batteries and vehicles to drive the industry’s transition to electric vehicles. The launch of the Bedrock Chassis marks another milestone in the company’s mission to revolutionize the EV market and establish itself as a leader in the field.
