Chinese automotive giant Chery has officially announced its entry into the UK market with the launch of the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 SUVs. The Tiggo 7, priced starting at £24,995, is set to compete with the Dacia Bigster, offering customers the choice between a pure-petrol engine or a plug-in hybrid option.

The pure-petrol version of the Tiggo 7 is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine producing 145bhp and 203lb ft of torque, resulting in a 0-62mph time of 9.4 seconds. On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid variant, priced from £29,995, combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and an 18.3kWh battery supplied by CATL. This setup delivers a total output of 201bhp and 269lb ft of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds. The PHEV version can travel up to 56 miles on electric power alone and emits just 23g/km of CO2, placing it in the 9% benefit-in-kind tax band for company car users from 2025-2026.

Chery will offer two trim levels for the Tiggo 7, named Aspire and Summit. The entry-level Aspire comes equipped with synthetic-leather upholstery, dual-zone air conditioning, adaptive cruise control, and a six-speaker Sony sound system. The Summit trim level upgrades the sound system to eight speakers, adds ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and hands-free boot opening. Both variants feature dual 12.3-inch displays for instrumentation and infotainment.

In addition to the Tiggo 7, Chery will also introduce the seven-seat Tiggo 8 to the UK market. Both models will come with a comprehensive seven-year/100,000-mile warranty, providing customers with peace of mind and assurance of quality.

Chery’s decision to bring its brand to the UK market marks the introduction of its fifth marque in the region. With Omoda and Jaecoo already established in 2024, the value-focused Lepas and off-road-centric iCaur brands are set to follow soon. Furthermore, Chery is playing a key role in the revival of the Freelander brand in partnership with JLR, showcasing its commitment to expanding its presence in the competitive automotive market.

With competitive pricing, advanced technology, and a strong warranty offering, Chery’s Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 are poised to make a significant impact in the UK SUV segment. Stay tuned for further updates on the official launch and availability of these exciting new models.
