Preview: MG CyberX SUV Set to Debut at Shanghai Motor Show
The highly anticipated MG CyberX SUV has been teased in a video ahead of its official unveiling at the Shanghai motor show. This new electric SUV will join MG’s Cyber line-up, which was introduced last year with the Cyberster roadster.
From the early images released, it is clear that the CyberX will feature a more rugged and boxy design compared to MG’s existing models. The SUV is expected to appeal to lifestyle-minded buyers and will come equipped with illuminated badges and full-width LED light bars both at the front and rear. Competitors in this segment are likely to include the new Smart #5.
Targeted towards younger buyers, MG’s Cyber sub-brand initially focuses on the Chinese market but has plans for global expansion. The Cyberster, for example, is already available for purchase in the UK. In addition to the CyberX, MG has ambitious plans to launch eight new models within the next two years, spanning across sports cars, saloons, and SUVs.
The CyberX will be built on SAIC’s latest E3 electric platform, marking its first fully electric, system-level architecture. This platform is designed to accommodate a wide range of models, from compact cars to large SUVs and sports cars, with the flexibility to support various drivetrain configurations. The CTB construction, which integrates the battery structure into the car’s body, enhances rigidity, reduces weight, and improves efficiency.
