Ford’s EV Sales Remain Flat Despite Overall US Sales Rising in July
Despite a 9% increase in overall US sales for Ford in July, the company’s electric vehicle (EV) sales remained flat. Ford’s CEO, Jim Farley, has promised the unveiling of a new breakthrough EV in the coming days.
Ford reported selling a total of 198,313 vehicles in the US in July, marking a 5% year-over-year increase. However, their EV sales only experienced a minor 0.2% growth. The Mustang Mach-E, Ford’s electric SUV, had its best July ever with 5,308 units sold. The F-150 Lightning also saw a slight increase in sales, with 2,831 units sold.
On the other hand, sales of the E-Transit electric van continued to decline, with only 90 units sold in July, down by 89% compared to the previous year. Overall, Ford sold 8,229 EVs in July, a slight decrease from the same period last year.
Ford’s EV sales for the first seven months of 2025 have decreased by 9.9% compared to the same period in 2024. During the second-quarter earnings call, Farley announced plans to design and build a new breakthrough EV and platform in the US, calling it a “Model T moment” for Ford.
Ford aims to focus on trucks and SUVs in the EV market, developing a new low-cost EV platform and manufacturing LFP batteries in Michigan to produce more affordable electric models. The first electric model built on this new platform is expected to be a mid-size pickup truck set to launch in 2027.
In an effort to boost sales, Ford launched the “Triple Zero” promotion in July, offering $0 down, 0% interest, and zero payments for the first 90 days. This initiative follows the success of the “From America, For America” campaign, which provided employee pricing to all customers.
