Geely Automobile Holdings has recently introduced a new addition to its Galaxy lineup, the Galaxy L6 EM-i, aimed at competing with BYD’s Qin L DM-i model. Priced at RMB 89,800 ($12,300), the Galaxy L6 EM-i is powered by Geely’s Leishen EM-i hybrid system, known for its fuel efficiency, which was unveiled in October last year.
The Galaxy L6 EM-i comes in five variants with prices ranging from RMB 89,800 to RMB 109,800. To sweeten the deal, Geely is offering a limited-time discount of RMB 3,000 on all variants, making the starting prices as low as RMB 79,800. This discount is available until March 31.
Measuring 4,782 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,489 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,752 mm, the Galaxy L6 EM-i is equipped with the Leishen EM-i hybrid system, boasting a combined fuel consumption of just 2.9 L per 100 kilometers and a range of over 2,000 km.
The model is powered by lithium iron phosphate battery packs with two capacity options, 8.5 kWh and 19.09 kWh, offering battery ranges of 60 km and 140 km respectively. The engine delivers a maximum power of 82 kW and peak torque of 136 Nm, while the electric motor provides a peak power of 160 kW and peak torque of 262 Nm.
Launched on February 23, 2023, the Galaxy lineup is Geely’s new product range targeting the mainstream plug-in hybrid and pure electric vehicle market. The Galaxy L6 EM-i’s main rival is the BYD Qin L DM-i, equipped with the latest BYD DM 5.0 hybrid technology and priced between RMB 99,800 and RMB 139,800.
With the Galaxy L6 EM-i and the Qin L DM-i leading the charge, Geely and BYD are intensifying their competition in the hybrid vehicle market. Geely’s Galaxy lineup sold 361,846 vehicles in 2024, while BYD’s Qin family, including the Qin Plus lineup, achieved sales of 732,252 vehicles in the same year.
In conclusion, the Galaxy L6 EM-i is a promising addition to Geely’s lineup, offering a blend of fuel efficiency and performance that competes head-to-head with BYD’s offerings. With the ongoing advancements in hybrid technology, the market for eco-friendly vehicles is set to witness fierce competition between these two automotive giants.
