Great Wall Motor Launches MIND Project in Tianjin to Enhance Smart Manufacturing Capabilities

Great Wall Motor (GWM) has officially kicked off its MIND project in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) on February 8. The project aims to establish advanced intelligent production lines to manufacture complete vehicle lighting and thermal management system components, ultimately enhancing the company’s supply chain system and production efficiency.

With a total investment of 1.153 billion yuan, the MIND project plans to build two new factories dedicated to photoelectric and thermal systems. These facilities will produce automotive components such as air conditioning assemblies, cooling modules, vehicle front lamps, side lights, rear door lights, and auxiliary light products. Once operational, the project is expected to generate an annual output value of around 3 billion yuan.

TEDA is already home to three major complete vehicle manufacturers, including FAW Toyota, FAW-Volkswagen, and GWM, along with over 200 auto component suppliers. Leveraging this existing industrial network covering powertrain, chassis, body systems, and more, TEDA is well-positioned to support GWM’s MIND project.

GWM’s Tianjin Manufacturing Base, the company’s first complete vehicle manufacturing base outside of Baoding, boasts complete stamping, welding, painting, and assembly facilities. By the end of 2024, the Tianjin Manufacturing Base had produced a total of 3.98 million vehicles, with an output value of 403.6 billion yuan.

MIND Electronics Appliance Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of GWM established in 2003, focuses on optoelectronics, thermal systems, electrical systems, and smart driving systems. The company operates 24 sales outlets, R&D centers, and 28 production bases worldwide, making it a key player in GWM’s supply chain.

Overall, the launch of the MIND project in Tianjin represents a significant step forward for GWM in advancing its smart manufacturing capabilities and expanding its presence in the global automotive market.
