Here’s a closer look at Kia’s low-cost EV2 [Video]

Kia is gearing up to launch its smallest and most affordable electric vehicle, the EV2, which will be positioned below the EV3 in the company’s electric lineup. As the official launch date approaches, the EV2 was recently spotted on public roads, giving us a closer look at this upcoming electric SUV.

Despite its compact size of around 4,000 mm in length, Kia promises that the EV2 will not feel small when you’re inside it. Last month, at Milan Design Week, Kia offered a sneak peek of the interior of the EV2. The company showcased the EV2 concept, highlighting a few key details that we can expect to see in the production model.

The interior of the EV2 has been designed to create a relaxing retreat from the chaos of urban life, akin to a porch or balcony. With a flat floor layout, the SUV offers flexible seating options. By folding down the second-row seats and moving the front seats forward, the EV2 provides an open space for stretching out or enjoying a meal.

While specific details were not disclosed, it is expected that the EV2 will feature Kia’s new ccNC panoramic infotainment system with dual 12.3-inch driver and navigation screens. The exterior design of the EV2 resembles that of other Kia electric vehicles, such as the EV3, EV5, and EV9, with signature vertical daytime running lights and Star Map lightning.

Despite its small stature, the EV2 presents a commanding presence on the road due to its upright stance and broad wheel arches, reminiscent of the larger EV9 model. Recently, a production version of the EV2 was spotted in Germany, signaling its European debut in the near future.

Kia plans to launch the EV2 in Europe and other regions in early 2026. While pricing and final specifications have yet to be revealed, the EV2 is expected to offer a WLTP range of around 300 miles (483 km). Smaller battery options may be available to provide a lower price point with reduced range.

Like other Kia electric vehicles, the EV2 will be based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, which also underpins the IONIQ series. Kia’s CEO, Ho-Sung Song, has indicated that the EV2 will be priced starting at approximately £25,000 ($32,000) in the UK, but plans may have evolved since the initial announcement. Stay tuned for more updates on the Kia EV2 as the launch date draws near.
