Honda Motor has made a triumphant return to the market with the unveiling of its sixth-generation Prelude coupe model, marking a 24-year absence from the automotive scene. The Japanese automaker has described the all-new Prelude as a 2-door, 4-seater vehicle that draws inspiration from the fun-to-drive performance, legacy of innovation, and dynamic styling of its predecessors.
Based on the Civic Type R chassis, the new Prelude is equipped with a two-motor hybrid-electric powertrain, similar to the Civic hybrid models. This powertrain includes a 141 hp 2.0L Atkinson 4-cylinder in-line engine, delivering a total power output of 200 hp. A standout feature of the model is Honda’s S+ Shift, a new drive mode that simulates a performance transmission experience for enhanced driver engagement.
The Prelude is priced at JPY 6,179,800 (US$41,750) in Japan, with plans for a rollout in the US in the fourth quarter of 2025 and in Europe in 2026. Katsuhi Inoue, CEO of Honda’s Automobile Operations, expressed the importance of the Prelude in the company’s future four-wheel automobile strategy. Additionally, Jessika Laudermilk, assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales, emphasized the significance of reintroducing such an iconic nameplate to the Honda lineup, highlighting the company’s commitment to exciting, fun-to-drive vehicles and the acceleration of hybrid-electric sales.
In conclusion, the return of the Prelude signifies Honda’s dedication to innovation and excellence in the automotive industry. With its cutting-edge features and performance-driven design, the new Prelude is set to make a lasting impression on car enthusiasts worldwide.
