Huawei Maextro S800 set to challenge Rolls-Royce in China

The Maextro S800 is the latest luxury electric vehicle to hit the market, boasting up to 852 hp and a state-of-the-art technology stack developed by Huawei. Positioned to compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS and Rolls-Royce Spectre, this Chinese luxury brand is making waves with its new offering.

One of the standout features of the Maextro S800 is its sparkling, fiber-optic headliner that exudes opulence. Huawei has taken a page out of Rolls-Royce’s book by adding shimmering details to not just the headliner, but also the door handles, headlights, and projections that dance around the car as you approach it. This attention to detail creates a truly special and luxurious experience for owners.

What sets the Maextro S800 apart from its competitors is its bespoke, purpose-built platform that doesn’t share parts with other mainstream brands like Mercedes or BMW. This exclusivity adds to the allure of the vehicle, especially for discerning buyers looking for something truly unique.

Under the hood, the Maextro S800 offers a choice of EREV or pure battery electric powertrains, delivering between 480 and 852 all-electric horsepower. The car is equipped with 32 ADAS sensors, including radar and lidar, that work in conjunction with cameras to analyze the road ahead. Huawei’s ADS road perception system constantly adjusts torque distribution, suspension settings, and steering to provide a top-of-the-line chauffeur experience.

In terms of safety, the Maextro S800 features advanced collision detection and response capabilities. In the event of a crash, the car can adjust its stance, raise the windows, and unlock the doors to enable outside help to assist. The vehicle also switches to a redundant power supply and calls for help post-collision.

On the charging front, the Maextro S800 supports an 800V high-voltage system in select trims, allowing for 6C charging. This means the car can be charged with up to 390 kW of power, taking just 10.5 minutes to charge the 66 kWh battery in the EREV version from 10% to 80%.

Set to launch in China in May, the Maextro S800 will be priced between 1 and 1.5 million yuan (approximately $135–205,000 US). With its cutting-edge technology, luxurious features, and unique design, the Maextro S800 is poised to make a splash in the ultra-luxury EV market.
