Kia Revamps Line-Up with New Picanto and Xceed Models
Kia has recently made significant changes to its vehicle line-up, with the introduction of a new range-topping Xceed model and the discontinuation of the Ceed and Ceed SW. The Picanto, Kia’s second best-selling model after the Sportage, has undergone a slimming down of its line-up, now exclusively offering a 67bhp 1.0-litre petrol engine.
The Xceed, on the other hand, has received a boost with the addition of a 177bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine in the top-spec variant, while the base model now features a 113bhp hybridised 1.0-litre engine. Both models are available with manual or automatic transmissions and have been rebranded with new trim levels: Pure, GT-Line, and GT-Line S.
Pricing for the Picanto starts at £16,695, while the Xceed is priced from £25,165, with top-spec models reaching £20,245 and £33,125 respectively.
In a strategic move, Kia has decided to discontinue the Ceed and Ceed SW models, making way for the introduction of a new model, rumored to be called the K4, which is expected to arrive in Europe later this year. This new model will fill the gap left by the axed models and is anticipated to be a strong competitor in the C-segment market.
Additionally, Kia has been gearing up for its electric vehicle lineup, with the EV4 set to be the brand’s first electric C-segment offering. Production of the EV4 is underway, with deliveries scheduled to begin soon. The upcoming EV2, Kia’s entry-level EV, is also in the pipeline and will be manufactured at the Zilina plant from early 2026.
Furthermore, Kia has been working on a concept for the EV2, which will be twinned with a Hyundai model, expected to be named the Ioniq 2. Both models are anticipated to be revealed at the upcoming Munich motor show.
The recent changes mark the end of an era for the Ceed, which first debuted in 2006, along with the Ceed SW estate and the Proceed. The Xceed, a crossover-inspired model, was introduced in 2019, further expanding Kia’s diverse vehicle lineup.
