Kimera Evo38: Lancia 037 tribute gains mild-hybrid system, 4WD

The highly anticipated Kimera Evo38 has finally been unveiled in its completed production form, making its debut at Monterey Car Week. This impressive vehicle boasts nearly 600bhp, mild hybrid technology, and four-wheel drive capabilities.

The Evo38 is a modern interpretation of what could have been if the iconic WRC-winning Lancia 037 had continued to be developed past 1992. This new model is an evolution of Kimera’s first release, the Evo37.

One of the most significant updates to the Evo38 is the transition from the traditional rear-wheel-drive setup of the 037 to a more versatile four-wheel drive system. This change allows for power to be distributed to all four wheels, with the ability to adjust torque distribution using a controller within the cockpit. Drivers can choose to have power sent solely to the rear wheels for a more dynamic driving experience.

Under the hood, the Evo38 is powered by a turbocharged and supercharged 2.2-litre four-cylinder engine, delivering an impressive 592bhp. This increase in power is partly due to the incorporation of a 48V mild-hybrid system and a unique exhaust design. The exhaust features a valve that enables drivers to switch between a quieter, more road-friendly mode and a louder, more aggressive sound. When the valve is open, the turbocharger can even be seen glowing through the rear of the vehicle.

The transmission of power is handled by a six-speed manual gearbox with a striking exposed billet-aluminum linkage. This design not only enhances the performance of the Evo38 but also adds a touch of visual appeal to the vehicle.

Overall, the Kimera Evo38 is a remarkable blend of modern technology and nostalgic design, paying homage to the legendary Lancia 037 while pushing the boundaries of performance and innovation. Its debut at Monterey Car Week is sure to turn heads and attract enthusiasts from around the world.
