Mazda Announces Major Infotainment System Upgrade for CX-5
In response to customer feedback, Mazda has unveiled a significant upgrade to the infotainment system of the CX-5. According to technology research boss Christian Schultze, this change was requested by owners and is considered a “big improvement” over the previous system.
Schultze explained that the previous dial offered limited functionality, particularly when it came to more complex operations. The new system, powered by Google and already in use by other car manufacturers like Renault, Volvo, and Polestar, features maps and apps similar to those found on Pixel phones. It also supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
One of the key requests by customers was the ability to customize the system, including adding widgets to the homescreen. Schultze noted that “customers are crazy for that” level of personalization.
One standout feature of the new system is its compatibility with media apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime, making it possible for passengers in the back to enjoy entertainment options while parked. Additionally, the removal of the dial has created space for a wireless charging pad on the center console.
European design director Jo Stenuit confirmed that this new interior setup, which includes a new steering wheel featuring Mazda’s updated branding, will be introduced across the rest of the Mazda range in the future.
