Nio is gearing up for the debut event of its highly anticipated third-generation ES8, set to take place at 7:30 pm Beijing time on Thursday, with the official launch slated for next month. The new ES8 will come equipped with a standard 100-kWh long-range battery pack and boasts a larger body size compared to its predecessor.
The electric vehicle company recently unveiled more official images of the third-generation ES8, showcasing the SUV’s exterior and interior features on Weibo. Among the highlights are an in-car refrigerator, various seat configurations, and ample trunk storage space. The debut event, scheduled for later today in Chengdu, Sichuan, will focus on the technical and product highlights of the new ES8.
The official launch of the third-generation ES8 is set to take place at Nio Day 2025 next month, although the exact date has yet to be announced. The latest iteration of the ES8 is equipped with three LiDARs, including a main LiDAR on the roof with a detection range of up to 500 meters, as well as two 120-degree wide-angle LiDARs on the sides of the vehicle.
Featuring a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system similar to Nio’s flagship sedan, the ET9, the new ES8 boasts a peak power output of 520 kW (707 horsepower) and a peak torque of 700 Nm. It also comes standard with a 100-kWh ternary lithium battery pack, offering an impressive CLTC range of 635 kilometers.
Nio recently reduced the cost of the optional 100-kWh long-range battery pack by RMB 20,000 ($2,780), resulting in price reductions for all long-range versions of its models currently on sale. The new-generation ES8 is expected to be more affordable than its predecessor, which was equipped with a 100-kWh battery pack.
The third-generation ES8, which entered China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology regulatory filing catalog in June, boasts larger dimensions than its predecessor. Available in both six-seat and seven-seat configurations, the new ES8 measures 5,280 mm in length, 2,010 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm. In comparison, its predecessor measured 5,099 mm in length, 1,989 mm in width, and 1,750 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,070 mm.
The ES8 marks Nio’s first mass-produced model, with the first generation based on the NT 1.0 platform launched in 2017 and the second generation unveiled in 2022. The third-generation ES8 represents a significant step forward for Nio, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and advancement in the electric vehicle market.
