Nio Inc’s mass-market sub-brand Onvo is celebrating its one-year anniversary today, as announced by William Li, founder, chairman, and CEO of the electric vehicle (EV) maker, in a letter to commemorate the occasion. The brand was officially launched a year ago with a focus on providing high-quality family life through its vehicles.
Since the start of deliveries on September 28, 2024, Onvo’s first model, the L60, has garnered over 40,000 users, showcasing the brand’s growing popularity in the market. Additionally, more than 30 Onvo car clubs have been established across China in the past six months, further solidifying the brand’s presence.
One of the key highlights of Onvo’s success is the availability of nearly 2,000 Nio battery swap stations for Onvo vehicles, with plans for further expansion in the future. Nio currently operates 3,312 battery swap stations in China, including 986 along highways, as indicated on Nio’s charging map.
Looking ahead, the flagship SUV from Onvo, the L90, is set to be officially launched in the third quarter and will cater to large families seeking a spacious and luxurious vehicle option. The anticipation for the L90’s release is high, as it promises to meet the needs of discerning customers in the market.
To commemorate Onvo’s first anniversary, a celebration is planned in Hefei, Anhui province, where two Nio Inc factories are located. Li and Onvo president Shen Fei embarked on a journey from Nio’s global headquarters in Shanghai to Hefei in an L60 equipped with a 60-kWh standard range battery pack, covering 467 kilometers without requiring a recharge or battery swap.
In a show of transparency and engagement, Li and Shen will host a live video broadcast on Onvo’s official social media accounts later today, allowing enthusiasts and customers to join in the celebration virtually.
The journey of Onvo began on May 15, 2024, with the launch of the L60 model and subsequent deliveries starting on September 28, 2024. While the initial performance of the L60 fell short of expectations, Nio Inc made strategic adjustments by integrating Onvo’s sales teams with the Nio brand to streamline operations.
Despite the challenges faced, Onvo delivered 19,181 vehicles in January-April, bringing the cumulative deliveries at the end of April to 39,942. The brand continues to evolve and expand its presence in the EV market, promising innovative solutions for customers seeking quality and reliability in their vehicles.
