Nissan Achieves Impressive Mileage with e-Power Hybrid System
Nissan has recently showcased the capabilities of its e-Power hybrid powertrain by driving a Qashqai from Land’s End to John O’Groats on a single tank of fuel. The journey covered 837 miles and the powertrain delivered an impressive 75mpg, showcasing both efficiency and refinement.
The e-Power system is unique in its design, with a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine solely responsible for generating electricity for a small 1.8kWh battery which powers an electric motor. This electric motor, producing 201bhp and 243lb ft of torque, is the driving force behind the vehicle.
In a previous test back in 2007, a diesel-engined Qashqai only managed 67mpg on the same journey, highlighting the advancements made by Nissan in improving the efficiency of their hybrid system. The recent upgrade to a new ‘five-in-one’ construction has further enhanced the system, making it more compact and responsive.
The 18-hour journey, spread over two days, saw the e-Power Qashqai reaching John O’Groats with plenty of fuel left in the tank for an additional 100 miles. While the official economy figure for the system stands at 62.8mpg, the test result of 75mpg demonstrates the potential for even greater efficiency with careful driving habits.
Nissan’s achievement showcases the potential for hybrid powertrains to deliver impressive fuel efficiency without compromising on performance. The e-Power system’s unique design and recent upgrades have positioned it as a viable and efficient option for eco-conscious drivers.
With advancements in technology and a focus on sustainability, hybrid systems like Nissan’s e-Power are paving the way for a greener future in the automotive industry. The successful journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats serves as a testament to the capabilities of this innovative powertrain.
