Nissan Motor India has seen a significant increase in total wholesales, with a 51.42% surge to 11,676 units in December 2024 compared to 7,711 units in December 2023. Domestic sales slightly decreased to 2,118 units last month from 2,150 units in the same period a year ago. On the other hand, exports saw a remarkable 72% growth to 9,558 units in December 2024, up from 5,561 units in the previous year.
For the calendar year 2024, the company reported total sales of 91,184 units. Managing director Saurabh Vatsa highlighted the transformative phase for Nissan in India during 2024, introducing new models like the 4th generation Nissan X-TRAIL and the new Nissan Magnite. Vatsa expressed optimism about building on this momentum to deliver even more value to customers in the upcoming year.
Responding to increasing demand, Nissan India recently added a third shift at its Chennai manufacturing facility, creating 600 new jobs. Despite a global reduction of 9,000 jobs and a 20% cut in production announced by Nissan, the Indian operations are expected to remain unaffected as long as they stay competitive in the market.
In recent developments, Nissan and Honda have initiated merger talks, with plans to complete the deal by August 2026 and list a joint parent on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore a business integration through the creation of a joint holding company.
