The seventh China International Import Expo (CIIE) kicked off in Shanghai on November 5, with Nissan Motor making a significant appearance to showcase its latest advancements in electrification and intelligent mobility. The company reiterated its commitment to the Chinese market and consumers while also announcing its participation in China’s ESG Alliance to support sustainable development initiatives in the country.
China’s automotive market is evolving rapidly, presenting new growth opportunities. In response to the changing needs of Chinese consumers, Nissan is accelerating its transformation towards electrification and intelligent vehicle solutions. The company is developing a diverse product lineup with multiple powertrain options to cater to the local demand for future mobility. By fiscal year 2026, Nissan plans to introduce eight new energy vehicle models tailored for the Chinese market, including five under the Nissan brand.
During this year’s CIIE, Nissan showcased four flagship models designed to meet the varied preferences of Chinese consumers. These included new energy concept cars, an autonomous taxi, and a six-seat flagship SUV tailored for large families in China.
Nissan has been at the forefront of autonomous driving technology in China, with its subsidiary, Nissan Mobility Service Co., Ltd., completing two phases of autonomous driving demonstration operations in Suzhou. The company’s autonomous vehicle fleet in China has accumulated a total autonomous driving distance of 140,501 kilometers as of October 22, 2024, showcasing the progress in this field.
In addition to advancing intelligent hardware and electrification, Nissan is leveraging its software development expertise to explore smart route planning systems for autonomous driving. The intelligent route planning system, developed in collaboration with partners, optimizes navigation based on real-time traffic conditions to guide autonomous vehicles along the most efficient routes. This system is expected to expand to more Chinese cities in the future, contributing to the development of smart cities.
To further demonstrate its commitment to the Chinese market, Nissan acquired the former Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance Innovation Lab Shanghai and established Nissan Technology Development Shanghai Co., Ltd. This move underscores the company’s long-term investment in China.
Nissan has also forged strategic partnerships with local companies in China to create localized solutions and uphold its “In China, for China” approach. Through collaborations with 540 local suppliers, Nissan’s China components export business unit has enhanced operational and quality standards for sustainable export growth. The focus has shifted from traditional parts to high-tech electrification components like batteries and battery management systems.
Moreover, Nissan has teamed up with Tsinghua University to conduct V2X energy management testing in the Lin-gang Special Area of Shanghai. This collaboration will explore virtual power plant response, new business models, and other aspects of energy management, providing valuable insights for the development of new energy vehicles and supporting efforts to build a low-carbon society.
Overall, Nissan’s participation in CIIE 2024 underscores its dedication to innovation, sustainability, and partnership in the Chinese market, positioning the company for long-term success and growth.
