Peugeot to Launch GTi Variant of the e-208
Peugeot is set to make a bold move by introducing a GTi variant of the e-208, marking the return of the iconic GTi badge to the brand. The announcement was made by new Peugeot CEO, Alain Favey, who emphasized the importance of nurturing the brand’s reputation for delivering exceptional driving sensations.
This new GTi model will be the first of its kind since the previous-generation Peugeot 308 GTi went off sale in 2021. Notably, it will also be Peugeot’s first sporty electric car, signaling a shift towards electrification in the performance segment.
In a statement to the media, Favey expressed his excitement about reintroducing the GTi badge, stating that it signifies a connection to Peugeot’s rich history and motorsport heritage, particularly in the World Endurance Championship.
According to Favey, the decision to bring back the GTi badge is a strategic move to reinforce Peugeot’s commitment to delivering exceptional driving experiences. He highlighted the unique driving sensations that Peugeot cars offer, both for the driver and passengers.
While the focus is currently on the e-208 GTi, Favey hinted at the possibility of expanding the GTi lineup based on customer feedback. He emphasized the importance of listening to customers’ preferences and needs when planning future models.
Despite the excitement surrounding the return of the GTi badge, Favey clarified that there are no immediate plans for additional GTi variants of the 208. However, he did not rule out the possibility of exploring other GTi executions in the future.
The decision to reintroduce the GTi badge reflects Favey’s commitment to revitalizing the Peugeot brand and delivering innovative, high-performance vehicles. With the e-208 GTi leading the way, Peugeot is poised to make a bold statement in the electric hot hatch segment.
