Pony.ai Unveils 7th Generation Robotaxi at 2025 Hong Kong Auto Expo

Chinese autonomous driving startup Pony.ai made waves at the 2025 International Automotive & Supply Chain Expo in Hong Kong by showcasing its seventh-generation Robotaxi, based on the Toyota bZ4X. This cutting-edge model represents the latest advancements in autonomous driving hardware and software, marking its debut in the city.

Designed for large-scale Level 4 autonomous vehicle deployment, the Gen-7 Robotaxi is equipped with 100% automotive-grade components and offers a significant 70% cost reduction in autonomous driving kits compared to previous generations. Its adaptability allows for integration across multiple vehicle models.

The Gen-7 Robotaxi features 34 sensors across six categories, including 9 LiDAR units, 14 cameras, and 4 millimeter-wave radars. This comprehensive detection setup provides full 360-degree blind spot monitoring and can identify objects up to 650 meters away, making it suitable for various urban and intercity environments.

One of the standout features of the Gen-7 Robotaxi is its autonomous driving domain controller, which houses four NVIDIA Orin-X chips, making it the world’s first Level 4 system of its kind. With a total computing power of 1,016 TOPS and a lifecycle of 10 years or 600,000 kilometers, this system delivers exceptional performance and efficiency.

Aside from the Gen-7 Robotaxi, Pony.ai’s seventh-generation autonomous driving system powers the GAC AION’s AION V, which has recently secured a road test license for intelligent connected vehicles in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Pony.ai’s operational network spans across Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, with plans to exceed 1,000 vehicles by the end of 2025.

Expanding into the Hong Kong market is a strategic move for Pony.ai, as the city plays a crucial role in international connectivity and finance. By gradually introducing ride-hailing services in Hong Kong, Pony.ai aims to enhance connectivity in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and establish cross-regional systems for intelligent connected vehicles.

With successful deployment in Hong Kong, Pony.ai’s Robotaxis will offer seamless intercity transportation within the Greater Bay Area, including airports and train stations, providing residents with safe and convenient self-driving services. Additionally, Pony.ai is actively pursuing global expansion, with operations in countries such as South Korea, Luxembourg, and the Middle East, as well as strategic partnerships with leading ride-hailing companies.

Overall, Pony.ai’s commitment to innovation and expansion in the autonomous driving industry positions it as a key player in shaping the future of mobility worldwide.
