Nio, the renowned electric vehicle manufacturer, has recently filed for the first model of its sub-brand Firefly, which is set to hit the market in April. The model, named NAL7000BSEVY1, is an all-electric vehicle that supports battery swap technology and will be produced at Nio’s F2 plant located in Hefei city, Anhui province.

Measuring 4,003 mm in length, 1,781 mm in width, and 1,557 mm in height, the Firefly model is a five-seater with a wheelbase of 2,615 mm. Weighing 1,492 kilograms, it can reach a top speed of 150 kilometers per hour and is powered by a 105 kW electric motor from Nio’s XPT division.

One of the key highlights of the Firefly model is its battery supplier, Sunwoda, which marks the first collaboration between the battery maker and Nio. Sunwoda, originally known for manufacturing cell phone batteries, expanded its operations to include automotive power battery packs and battery management systems in 2008.

The decision to partner with Sunwoda reflects Nio’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the electric vehicle industry. Previously, Nio had sourced batteries from suppliers like CATL, BYD, and CALB. The strategic move to work with Sunwoda aligns with Nio’s vision for the Firefly brand, which aims to challenge established players like BMW Mini and Mercedes-Benz’s Smart.

The Firefly’s first model was launched for pre-sales in China at a price of RMB 148,800 yuan ($20,300) and is scheduled for an official release in April. With a focus on premium design and advanced technology, the Firefly model is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market.

As Nio continues to expand its global presence, plans are already in place to launch the Firefly’s first model in Europe in the first half of 2025. This strategic move, spearheaded by Nio’s founder and CEO William Li, underscores the brand’s commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the electric vehicle sector.

In conclusion, the Firefly model represents a new era of electric vehicles, combining cutting-edge technology with sleek design to deliver a premium driving experience. With Sunwoda as its battery supplier and a strong focus on sustainability, the Firefly brand is set to redefine the future of electric mobility.
