Great Wall Motor’s second-generation Haval H9 SUV has finally hit the market with a fresh new design. Available in three trims and offering both 5- and 7-seater layouts, the Haval H9 comes in the following price points:
– Tanjing Edition: 199,900 yuan (28,400 USD)
– Tajing Edition: 215,900 yuan (30,700 USD)
– Jijing Edition: 229,900 yuan (32,700 USD)
Interestingly, the sales price is actually 6,000 yuan (850 USD) lower than the pre-sale price, making it an attractive option for potential buyers. Additionally, Great Wall Motor plans to introduce a 2.4T diesel-engine-powered version in the near future.
Originally scheduled for a September 19 launch, the unveiling of the second-generation Haval H9 was postponed as the management at Great Wall Motor felt that the launch conference lacked creativity.
The Haval H9, a 7-seater medium-to-large SUV under the Haval brand, was initially launched back in November 2014. Over the years, it underwent several appearance adjustments but did not see a complete generational change until now. Sales started to decline in 2023, prompting the release of the second-generation model in hopes of revitalizing interest in the vehicle.
The exterior of the Haval H9 offers consumers the choice between two rear designs: one with a spare tire and the other with an external square storage unit. The vehicle comes in two length options – 5070 mm and 4950 mm – and two width options – 1976 mm and 1960 mm. The height remains consistent at 1930 mm for both versions.
Key specifications include a minimum ground clearance of 224 mm, an approach angle of 31°, departure angles of 26°/25°, and a wading depth of 800 mm, all under unloaded conditions.
On the performance front, the Haval H9 boasts a towing capacity of 2.5 tons or 2,268 kg. The vehicle runs on different tire sizes based on the trim level and features advanced driving assistance systems like lane departure warning, cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and traffic sign recognition with a speeding alarm.
Under the hood, the second-generation Haval H9 is equipped with BorgWarner’s Torque-On-Demand intelligent four-wheel drive system and a 2.0T gasoline engine (model GW4C20B) delivering 160 kW (215 hp) of power and 380 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The fuel tank has a capacity of 80 L.
Inside, the interior of the Haval H9 is adorned with an orange and black color scheme and comes equipped with a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel, a 14.6-inch central control screen, and an oval-shaped steering wheel. The seats, made of imitation leather materials, offer heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The trunk volume is 791 L for the 5-seater version and expands to 1814 L with the second row of seats folded down.
Remote control and voice control features are supported for various components like the door, honk, flashing light, engine, air conditioning, panoramic sunroof, multimedia, navigation, phone access, window, and seat adjustments.
