Recently, multiple images have surfaced on Chinese social media platforms showcasing what appears to be Nio Inc’s (NYSE: NIO) ES9, set to debut next year. The images reveal a camouflaged vehicle parked next to the new ES8 SUV, highlighting its larger size compared to its predecessor.

According to automotive bloggers on Weibo, the ES9 is Nio’s new flagship SUV, one size larger than the ES8. The design of the new model remains consistent with existing Nio vehicles, maintaining the brand’s signature aesthetic.

Referred to internally as Draco, the ES9 is rumored to be built on the NT 3.0 platform and could exceed 5.2 meters in length. The SUV is expected to incorporate advanced technologies seen in the ET9 flagship sedan, such as the SkyRide intelligent chassis system.

In a user communication event in May, Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong confirmed that the ES9 is scheduled for launch in the first half of 2026. This marks the first time Nio’s management has publicly acknowledged the model.

Additionally, Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li announced during an earnings call that the Nio main brand will introduce two large SUVs in 2026: the ES9 and a new ES7 five-seat SUV. The ES9’s larger dimensions position it to become one of the largest SUVs in the Chinese market.

The ES9’s name, with the number 9 included, suggests a continuation of Nio’s tradition of innovative technologies and features. The unveiling of the ES9 is anticipated to take place at Nio Day 2025 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang on September 20, where the third-generation ES8 will also be officially launched.

With pre-sales for the new ES8 already underway, Nio continues to expand its lineup of electric vehicles, catering to a growing market demand for sustainable and high-performance automobiles. The delay in the release of the Onvo L80 SUV underscores the company’s commitment to ensuring quality and production efficiency across its product range.

As Nio prepares to introduce the ES9 and ES7 SUVs, the company solidifies its position as a key player in the electric vehicle market, offering consumers cutting-edge technology and luxury in their driving experience. Stay tuned for more updates on Nio’s latest developments in the automotive industry.
