Tesla Model Y Performance revealed with 460bhp and supercar pace

Tesla has recently unveiled the highly anticipated Model Y Performance, a powerful sports crossover that boasts an impressive 460bhp. This new model is set to accelerate quicker than a Porsche 911 GT3, making it a formidable competitor in the high-performance crossover segment.

Priced at £61,990 and available for order now, the Model Y Performance is expected to start deliveries in October. With a significant design overhaul distinguishing it from the standard Model Y, this hot new variant also sees a substantial increase in power.

Equipped with the same ‘Performance 4DU’ motors as the potent Tesla Model 3, the Model Y Performance packs a punch with 460bhp. It can go from 0-60mph in just 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 155mph, putting it in the same league as top-tier sports cars like the BMW M5 and Audi RS6. The previous range-topping dual motor Model Y offered 375bhp.

In addition to the impressive power output, the Model Y Performance can be outfitted with a new ‘high-density’ battery cell that allows it to achieve a range of 360 miles per charge, almost matching the standard AWD Model Y despite the power increase. The SUV also benefits from the same adaptive dampers found in the Model 3 Performance, along with new suspension hardware and optimized wheels and tires.

Visually, the Model Y Performance features a more aggressive design with aero-efficient front and rear bumpers, a carbon rear wing, 21-inch sports-style alloy wheels, and red brake callipers. Inside, the vehicle boasts a larger 16-inch touchscreen display, heated and ventilated front sports seats with enhanced side bolsters for improved support during cornering.

Production of the Model Y Performance will take place at Tesla’s Brandenburg factory near Berlin, with the initial launch scheduled for Europe and the Middle East before expanding to other markets. This new model further expands the Model Y lineup as Tesla continues to compete against a growing number of rivals in the market.

Overall, the Model Y Performance represents a significant step forward for Tesla, showcasing the brand’s commitment to innovation and performance in the electric vehicle sector. With its blend of power, range, and advanced features, this sports crossover is set to make a lasting impression on the automotive industry.
