Tesla achieved record-breaking sales in China in December, selling approximately 83,000 electric vehicles (EVs), which is an 18.9% increase from the previous month. This marks the best month ever for the company in terms of sales. In total, Tesla sold 657,000 EVs in China in 2024, representing an 8.8% increase from the previous year’s sales figure of about 604,000 units.

The Shanghai plant, where Tesla produces its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, saw a total of 93,766 units being wholesaled in December, including 10,766 EVs that were exported. Overall, Tesla’s China wholesales (including exports) for 2024 amounted to 916,660 units, a slight decrease of 3.3% from the 2023 figure of 947,742 units.

Despite the slight decline in China wholesales, Tesla’s global deliveries for 2024 reached 1,789,226 EVs, marking a 1.1% decrease from the previous year. This decrease represents Tesla’s first annual decline in twelve years. China contributed significantly to Tesla’s global deliveries, accounting for 37% of the total with 657,000 units sold.

In recent developments, Tesla has been actively expanding its operations in China. The company recently completed trial production in its second plant in Shanghai and is set to deploy V4 Supercharge Cabinets across the country, providing up to 500 kW of charging power. Additionally, Tesla China is gearing up to start mass production of a facelifted Tesla Model Y, codenamed Juniper, by the end of the month. This updated version will be followed by a three-row 6-seater Model Y in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Overall, Tesla’s performance in China continues to be strong, with record-breaking sales figures and ongoing expansion plans that demonstrate the company’s commitment to the Chinese market.
