Toyota has unveiled a new and improved version of its first electric SUV, the bZ4X. The original model, launched in 2022, faced some challenges that Toyota has addressed in this upgraded version. The new bZ4X boasts a larger battery for increased range, faster charging capabilities, dedicated EV features, and a stylish facelift.

One of the most significant changes to the bZ4X is the addition of a bigger battery, with two options available: 57.7kWh and 73.1kWh. The smaller battery will be offered in a front-wheel drive configuration, while the larger battery option will be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive setups. The upgraded AWD model has an impressive 338 horsepower (252 kW) and a towing capacity of 1,500 kg.

In terms of performance, the new bZ4X boasts an upgraded eAxle and a WLTP driving range of up to 573 km (356 miles), a notable improvement from the previous model’s range of up to 516 km (320 miles). The vehicle can fast charge in approximately 30 minutes in cold weather conditions, with a maximum DC charging power of 150 kW. Additionally, a new route planning function has been added to automatically select the best charging station, available through an OTA update for current bZ4X drivers.

The interior of the bZ4X has also been redesigned, featuring a new 14″ infotainment and instrument display panel. Toyota has included a battery pre-conditioning feature as standard, enhancing the overall driving experience. While the US specifications have not been disclosed yet, the 2025 bZ4X is expected to offer around 252 miles on the EPA rating scale, with potential for even more mileage upon its arrival in the US market.

The updated bZ4X is set to launch in Europe later this year, alongside two other new EVs from Toyota: the Toyota C-HR+ and the Urban Cruiser electric SUVs. These additions will further expand Toyota’s electric vehicle lineup in Europe, catering to the growing demand for sustainable transportation options. With its improved features and enhanced performance, the new bZ4X is poised to make a significant impact in the electric SUV market.
