Addressing common issues in traditional braking systems, such as high drag torque and slow response, Wuling Automobile Industry has developed a drum EPB product that integrates an electric motor directly onto the drum brake assembly. This design optimizes space usage, provides rapid response, minimal drag torque, and reduced noise, harnessing the benefits of brake-by-wire technology.
A key feature of this new system is the in-house developed EPB controller, which serves as the control unit for the electronic parking brake. This controller enhances the system’s braking performance by enabling functions like manual parking, manual release, automatic parking, automatic release, and hill-start assist, making it suitable for various vehicle types.
During the launch ceremony of China’s National Science and Technology Week in Guangxi, Wuling Automobile Industry showcased its drum EPB and EPB controller, leading to the integration of the product into a model from the Vietnamese automaker. This successful deployment marks the beginning of overseas export for the company’s φ203mm drum EPB product.
With technical breakthroughs in zero drag, standardized design, and modularity, Wuling Automobile Industry has achieved mass production of both the φ260mm and φ203mm leading shoe drum EPB products. Additionally, the company’s φ250mm bidirectional self-boosting brake prototype has successfully completed B-round road testing on a vehicle model from a prominent Chinese brand.
