Xpeng, a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, recently made a significant move by shipping 300 right-hand-drive X9 MPVs to Thailand. This marks the company’s efforts to expand its presence in international markets, starting with the launch of its highest-priced model, the X9 MPV.

The X9 MPV, which was unveiled in China on January 1, 2024, is a seven-seater vehicle that is part of Xpeng’s SEPA 2.0 architecture. Priced at RMB 359,800 ($49,620) in China, the X9 is strategically positioned to help boost Xpeng’s gross margins.

In 2024, the X9 contributed significantly to Xpeng’s overall deliveries, with 21,653 units sold, accounting for 11.39 percent of the company’s total deliveries for the year. Xpeng’s strategic partnership with Thai dealer group Neo Mobility Asia further solidified its entry into the ASEAN market, following the successful launch of the right-hand drive version of the G6 SUV in Thailand in August last year.

Xpeng’s expansion plans extend beyond Thailand, with the company showcasing the X9 in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and with plans to launch the MPV in Norway as well. The company’s chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, expressed enthusiasm for the company’s global expansion initiatives, emphasizing the importance of establishing Xpeng as a key player in the international EV market.

One of Xpeng’s key strengths is its advanced smart driving capabilities, which the company aims to replicate in international markets. The Turing AI Intelligent Driving System, set to enter the global adaptation phase in 2026, will offer cutting-edge intelligent driving features tailored to different driving conditions, setting new benchmarks for safety, efficiency, and innovation.

In addition to enhancing its intelligent driving technology, Xpeng is also focused on improving the user experience for international customers through software iterations and over-the-air (OTA) updates. The company has rolled out major synchronized global OTA updates and plans to enhance its OTA capabilities for international users starting in 2025.

Furthermore, Xpeng is committed to expanding its ultra-fast charging network globally, starting with Southeast Asia in 2025. The company aims to set up charging stations in markets such as Hong Kong and Thailand in the first half of the year, with plans to expand to Asia, Europe, and Australia. Xpeng is also developing an overseas vehicle service network to ensure a seamless charging experience for users worldwide.

Overall, Xpeng’s comprehensive strategy aims to create a broader, faster, and more cost-effective charging network, reinforcing the company’s commitment to supporting its global customer base. With plans to cover 60 countries and regions and establish over 300 global service locations by the end of 2025, Xpeng is well-positioned to continue its growth and leadership in the international EV market.
