BYD’s upcoming Yangwang U7 sedan is set to feature the latest second-generation blade battery technology, offering impressive charging and discharging capabilities. According to a recent post by auto blogger Wu Ying, the new battery will have a charging multiplier of over 5.5 C and a discharging multiplier of more than 14 C.

This cutting-edge battery technology is expected to revolutionize the electric vehicle industry, allowing for rapid charging times and increased power output. The Yangwang U7 will be the first model from BYD’s premium sub-brand to be equipped with this advanced battery technology, setting a new benchmark for performance and efficiency.

The concept of charging and discharging multipliers refers to the battery’s ability to charge and discharge at a faster rate. A higher multiplier means quicker charging times and increased power output during discharging. For example, a 5.5 C charging multiplier would allow the battery to be fully charged in approximately 11 minutes, showcasing the efficiency of the new blade battery technology.

In comparison, Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra utilizes CATL’s second-generation Qilin Battery, which boasts an impressive 16 C or 1,330 kW of discharge power. This demonstrates the competitive landscape in the electric vehicle market, with companies continuously pushing the boundaries of battery technology to enhance performance and user experience.

BYD first introduced its first-generation blade battery in March 2020, focusing on safety and reliability. The lithium iron phosphate chemistry-based battery has since been integrated into BYD’s entire lineup of new energy vehicles, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

With the upcoming launch of the second-generation blade battery, BYD aims to stay ahead of the competition and meet the growing demand for high-performance electric vehicles. The new battery technology is expected to be released in the second half of 2024, with rumors of a 6 C battery in development as well.

Yangwang, BYD’s ultra-luxury sub-brand, made its debut in 2023 with the announcement of the U8 off-road SUV. The U7 sedan, with over 1,000 horsepower and a price range of around RMB 1 million, is set to redefine luxury and performance in the electric vehicle market.

The regulatory filing for the Yangwang U7 revealed key specifications, including its dimensions and powertrain details. The sedan will be powered by four permanent magnet synchronous motors, each delivering a peak power of 240 kW, promising an exhilarating driving experience.

The Yangwang U7 made its official debut at the 2024 Beijing auto show, showcasing its sleek design and advanced technology. With the integration of the second-generation blade battery technology, the U7 is poised to set new standards for performance, efficiency, and luxury in the electric vehicle market.

Stay tuned for more updates on the BYD Yangwang U7 and the latest advancements in electric vehicle technology.
