BYD enters Estonia, local deliveries to start in early 2025

BYD, a leading Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, has made its debut in the Estonian passenger car market, marking another milestone in its European expansion. The company, in collaboration with international dealership group Inchcape Motors, opened its first two BYD stores in Estonia on December 11, located in the capital city of Tallinn and the second-largest city of Tartu.

At the inauguration of these stores, BYD introduced four NEV models to the Estonian market, namely the BYD Seal, Song Plus EV, Song Plus DM-i, and Dolphin. Pre-sales for these models began on the same day, giving local consumers a first look at BYD’s offerings in Estonia.

The Song Plus EV has been rebranded as the Seal U in Estonia, while the Song Plus DM-i has been renamed as the Seal U DM-i. This renaming strategy is consistent with BYD’s approach in other overseas markets such as Thailand, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, where the Song Plus DM-i is known as the Sealion 6.

Customers in Estonia can expect to receive their first deliveries of BYD NEVs in early 2025, as the company gears up to meet the growing demand for green mobility solutions in the region. Michael Shu, BYD’s European managing director, emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in Europe and working closely with local partners like Inchcape to deliver innovative and sustainable transportation options.

In November, BYD reported impressive NEV sales figures, with a total of 506,804 units sold, marking a 67.87 percent increase from the previous year. Of these sales, 504,003 units were passenger NEVs, while 2,801 units were commercial NEVs. Additionally, BYD sold 30,977 NEVs in overseas markets during the same period, reflecting a steady growth trajectory in its international operations.

BYD officially announced its foray into the European passenger car market in September 2022 and has since launched eight NEV models across more than 20 European countries. With its relentless focus on innovation and sustainability, BYD is poised to make a significant impact on the European automotive landscape.

As BYD continues to expand its presence in Europe, the company remains committed to providing cutting-edge NEV solutions that prioritize environmental sustainability and technological advancement. Stay tuned for more updates on BYD’s latest developments in the European market.
