BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) is gearing up to double its sales network in Cambodia by the end of this year, as the company’s vehicle assembly plant in the country prepares to start production in the fourth quarter.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer aims to expand its presence in Cambodia with a total of 13 sales showrooms and 6 after-sales service centers by the end of the year. Currently, BYD operates 7 sales showrooms and 1 after-sales service center in Phnom Penh.
The NEV factory in Cambodia is making steady progress and is on track to begin production in the fourth quarter of this year. This facility will be the first operational NEV plant in the country and is designed to have an annual production capacity of 10,000 NEVs. This move will not only enhance local supply capabilities but also reduce delivery times for customers.
The BYD plant is a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) vehicle assembly facility located in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone. The groundbreaking ceremony for this plant took place in April this year, with a total investment of $32 million. Construction is expected to be completed by October, and the first batch of BYD EVs assembled in Cambodia is set to roll off the production line in early November.
BYD has already delivered 2,500 vehicles in Cambodia this year, reaching this milestone on August 23rd. The company plans to introduce the Sealion 7 SUV and M9 MPV in Cambodia this October, following the launch of the Sealion 5 and Atto 2 models in March.
BYD made its entry into the Cambodian market in 2020, with the opening of its first passenger vehicle sales center in Phnom Penh. Since then, the company has introduced multiple NEV models to cater to the growing demand for electric vehicles in the country.
In related news, Denza, a joint venture between BYD and Daimler, recently opened its first showroom in Cambodia on July 14th. The showroom completed its first local delivery of the D9 MPV, further expanding BYD’s presence in the Cambodian market.
