Nio, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has made a significant achievement in expanding its battery swap network across China. The company recently announced that its battery swap station network now covers 18 of China’s busiest highways, with a total of 913 stations along these key transportation routes.
This milestone marks the completion of Nio’s goal, set two years ago, to cover nine horizontal highways and nine vertical highways in China. The network now spans major inter-city highways across 12 city clusters, providing users with the convenience of completing a battery swap in just three minutes at designated service areas.
In a bid to address the mileage anxiety of car owners on long-distance trips, Nio unveiled plans in September 2021 to extend its battery swap network to five vertical highways, three horizontal highways, and four major metropolitan areas. The company aims to further expand its coverage to include 9 horizontal highways, 9 longitudinal highways, and 19 metropolitan areas by 2025, as announced at the second Nio Power Day event in July 2022.
With an average of one battery swap station every 200 kilometers along China’s highways, Nio now boasts a total of 2,808 battery swap stations nationwide. The company plans to add approximately 200 new stations in December, with a recent addition of 80 stations for its sub-brand Onvo.
In addition to its extensive battery swap network, Nio also operates one of the largest charging networks in China. The company currently has 2,512 supercharging stations and 1,670 destination charging stations across the country, providing car owners with convenient access to charging facilities.
